Alexander Lucas, PhD Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine, Richmond VA USA

Dr. Lucas’s work focuses on the role of health behaviors in limiting the development of comorbid conditions following a diagnosis with cancer, preventing disease progression and optimizing health-related quality of life during treatment and survivorship. Additional interests include the integration of mind-body interventions to address psychosocial comorbidity and foster resilience in both patients and survivors. Dr. Lucas has conducted research on the effects of physical activity and dietary interventions in patients with prostate, breast, and endometrial cancer and is currently examining the feasibility of implementing tailored exercise programs for cancer patients. Dr. Lucas’s work is founded upon social-cognitive and mindfulness-based frameworks aiming to provide an integrated approach to promoting healthy behavior change in the setting of cancer.
