Rodney (Rod) K. Brunson The University of Maryland

Rod K. Brunson is a Professor in the School of Criminal Justice at Rutgers University.  His primary research agenda examines minority youths’ experiences in disadvantaged neighborhood contexts, focusing on the impact of race, class, and gender on criminal justice practices.  This line of research has resulted in over 50 published articles, book chapters, and essays.  Professor Brunson was a member of the inaugural Summer Research Institute cohort in 2006 and has steadily contributed to the Racial Democracy Criminal Justice Network in several substantive ways.  He is committed to working with students and young scholars from underrepresented groups.  Further, Professor Brunson has committed himself to diversity efforts while holding administrative roles in the School of Criminal Justice at Rutgers and for the American Society of Criminology.

 

Dr. Brunson has received numerous professional awards.  He was the 2008 recipient of the New Scholar Award, American Society of Criminology, Division on People of Color and Crime.  He also received the 2010 Tory J. Caeti Outstanding Young Scholar Memorial Award, Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences, Juvenile Justice Section.  Rutgers University granted Professor Brunson the 2014-2015 Leaders in Faculty Diversity Award for "his internationally recognized research on police-community relations in urban neighborhoods, as well as his dedication to diversifying the field of Criminal Justice."  In 2015, the Department of Criminology, Law and Justice at the University of Illinois at Chicago presented Professor Brunson with the Distinguished Ph.D. Alumnus Award.
