This book is excellent especially for mature students returning to education and studying social work. Having said that, I think that it is useful for for the duration of the course rather than when just starting out. There are many areas addressed in the book for example reflection to portfolios, that are not just areas covered in the first year of study. .
Given that the level of intake onto social work programmes of study is increasingly attracting 'mature' students, this source will be a very valuable asset to the learning process, as more & more older students are turning to social work & allied 'caring professions'. Thus, it is a timely publication designed to meet the learning & study needs of non-traditional students.
Useful text that covers all the necessary areas, we'll use it for Masters students and probably for undergraduates as well.

I find this a very comprehensive and useful text which goes beyond just focusing on the production of assignments and reports to include valuable links to skills in communication, feedback and reflection, demonstrating how these effectively link the academic tasks to development of key practice skills.
