Dr. Schootman is a clinical and social epidemiologist and the system director for clinical analytics at SSM Health. Previously, he was Professor of Epidemiology, Health Services Research, and Medicine at Saint Louis University College for Public Health and Social Justice, Saint Louis, USA. Prior to this, he was Professor of Medicine at Washington University School of Medicine for 14 years.Dr. Schootman focused his research on investigating the effect of racial, economic, and geographic disparities on various cancer- and public health-related outcomes. He was the first to demonstrate that variation across geographic areas plays a significantly larger role in 30-day mortality than previously thought and even larger than variability across hospitals following colorectal cancer surgery. In much of his work, he used various advanced epidemiological methods, a geographic information system, and advanced Bayesian analyses. In all, he published over 200 peer-reviewed manuscripts. He received extensive funding from the National Institutes of Health and other funding agencies.
