Michael Weinhardt German Centre of Gerontology, Germany

Michael Weinhardt holds an M.Sc. in Sociology (Research) from the London School of Economics and Social Sciences, UK, and a PhD in Sociology from Freie Universität Berlin, Germany (2014). Thereafter, he worked at Bielefeld University and Technische Universität Berlin, specializing in sociological methods of research, combining quantitative, qualitative and participatory approaches. Since September 2021, he holds a position as senior scientist at the German Centre of Gerontology, serving temporarily as head of the German Ageing Survey. His present research is focused on studying the dynamics of social participation among older adults, such as political participation in the second half of life. His research interests also include methodological issues, e.g., the use of participatory methods to enhance inclusivity and diversity in surveys of the general population.
