Nancy M. Sawtell Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, Cincinnati, OH, USA

Dr. Sawtell is a Professor of Infectious Diseases at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Under the direction of Drs. Amadeo Pesce and J. Gabriel Michael, she trained in Pathology and Immunology, focusing on the mechanism underlying immune complex mediated glomerulonephritis and the development of animal models of disease. For the past twenty years her research has focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying HSV latency and reactivation, viral processes central to the human disease caused by this virus. These efforts have included the development of novel in vivo approaches which have been critical to new insights into viral host interactions in the nervous system.

Dr. Sawtell has served on numerous NIH review panels and scientific advisory panels and a contributor to the Faculty of 1000.
