An Introduction
- Chandrika Devarakonda - University of Chester, UK
With case studies and activities designed to help students relate to diverse situations, the author discusses the main issues surrounding:
- race
- gender
- culture
- disability and Special Educational Needs
- English as an Additional Language
- Traveller children
- the contexts of inclusion and exclusion
- good practice in early childhood settings
- different perspectives of inclusion
This is essential reading for students studying inclusion and diversity on early childhood or early years courses, and those seeking to promote good practice and enable all children to develop to their full potential irrespective of their background.
'The success of this book is in its ability to explore inclusion from a wide perspective. Offering a range of thought-provoking material, such as reflective questions, debates and controversies, practitioner, parent and children's views, legislation, activities, and examples of good practice, will keep readers interested and actively engaged throughout the book'

really informative book, good subjects discussed
For those trainees interested in ALN and SEN this makes an interesting and informative addition.
An excellent publication that makes this topic relevant, clear, interesting and thought provoking. Highly recommended.
Brillian and easy to read!
This text was a useful addition to our Inclusion module, offering a clear introduction to some general themes and concepts. Students found the case studies helpful as starting points for discussion.
Very Good book adopted as recommended reading for a Module on Inclusive Practice in the Early Years.
Really useful
Within the Foundation Degree for Early Years Care and Education we are adding this to our reading list. This beautifully underpins the knowledge needed for the Equal Opportunities module. The text identifies the diverse nature of settings and gives practical guidance of how to challenge discrimination and become champions of equality. I particularly like the case studies and activities which give the students practise with challenging, potenially discriminatory, situations.
Recommended text to our child branch nursing students
