- Kate Hamilton-West - University of Kent, UK
Senior Lecturer in Health Psychology, School of Medicine, University of Manchester
An engaging introduction to the interrelationships between mind and body across a broad range of topics including infectious illness, autoimmunity, cancer and pain. Taking a biopsychosocial approach, it brings together research from a number of disciplines including health psychology, psychoneuroimmunology and behavioural genetics.
Students are encouraged to consider how advances in psychobiological research can help us to uncover the true complexity of links between psychological, biological and social processes with respect to implications for health and how such advances can inform the development of interventions and treatment.
This is a very useful and accessible introduction to biological aspects of health psychology. A particular strength of this book are the chapters on At Risk Populations and Methodological Issues.
I willl be ordering this text for the library and recommending for a number of modules including Holistic Approaches to health, Exercise referral and Advanced Psychology.
This text should provide an opportunity for our Health, Exercise and Physical Activity students to further their understanding of issues of health and illness in order to understand, engage and motivate individuals that they may come into contact with or to help design programmes that they may be responsible for.
We will definitive use this book in our new profile PhD course.
Material is too complex for second year dental students. I will however be recommending the book for use in year 3.
This book will be really useful in the section of my personal and professional development course which considers stress and its effects on the body. It is up to date and considers this developing area in an accessible way.
This is an interesting and readable text suitable for all Health Care Practitioners examining the relationship between the mind & body
This is an excellent book that offers important new perspectives.
