Emily van der Nagel Monash University, Australia

Dr Emily van der Nagel is a Lecturer in Social Media in the School of Media, Film and Journalism at Monash University, Australia. She received her PhD from Swinburne University of Technology in 2018, with her thesis titled, ‘Social Media Pseudonymity: Affordances, Practices, Disruptions’. She teaches into the Bachelor of Media Communication. Her research interests include social media platforms, identities, practices, and intimacies. Emily has published research in First Monday, Continuum: Journal of Media and Cultural Studies, Internet Histories: Digital Technology, Culture and Society, M/C Journal: A Journal of Media and Culture, Media International Australia, Social Media + Society, and Porn Studies. Her first book, Sex and Social Media, co-authored with Professor Katrin Tiidenberg, was published by Emerald in 2020.
