Dr. Shi is a graduate of Sichuan Medical School in Chengdu, China. Following his Internship and Residency at the Sichuan Medical School Hospital, he pursued Fellowships at the Massachusetts General Hospital (1981–1984), the University of Minnesota (1984 -1985) and Fukushima Medical College, Japan (1988–1989). In 1992, He became an Assistant Professor at the University of Southern California, (1992-1999), Associate Professor (1999-2006) and Full Professor (2007-present). He is a Guest Professor at Peking University, in the School of Basic Medical Sciences, Beijing, China.
Dr. Shan-Rong Shi is the inventor of the antigen retrieval technique that is a revolutionary breakthrough in immunohistochemistry. He has over 70 peer-reviewed publications and Thompson-Reuters Web of Science reports that since 2007, his papers have been cited over 2500. He is the editor of three textbooks. The most recent is “Antigen Retrieval Immunohistochemistry Based Research & Diagnostics”, John Wiley & Sons, Publisher Inc., Hoboken, Editors: Shi, Shan-Rong and Taylor, C. R., 2010.
In addition to being an Associate Editor of The Journal of Histochemistry & Cytochemistry, Dr. Shi is an Editorial board member of Applied Immunohistochemistry and Molecular Morphology and the Chinese Journal of Pathology (an official journal of the Society of Pathology, Chinese Medical Association).
