Timothy A. Capron

Timothy A. Capron graduated from the local university and cleverly avoided the draft by graduating from Marine Corps Officer Candidate School at Quantico, Virginia. Following graduation, he then attended the Marine Corps Basic School for Officers at Quantico, and the Army Artillery Basic Officer Course at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. He was then assigned to Okinawa and Viet Nam and Hawaii. Leaving active duty, he attended graduate school, completing studies in 1979 with a PhD in criminal justice from Sam Houston State’s College of Criminal Justice. He then taught in a college program for a year and returned to Active Duty with the Marine Corps in 1980, transferring to the Army later that year. He enjoyed numerous assignments as a military police officer and a nuclear weapons officer, attending scores of schools and courses, including the Army Management Staff College. He retired from the military in 1995 as a Lieutenant Colonel, worked for ITT Systems as a manager working for the Defense Nuclear Information Center, until the latter part of 1998, relocating to California. He is a professor at Sac State, having taught there since 2000. He is lifetime member of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences and a member of the Association for the Study of the Mideast and Africa. His latest textbook is:  Capron, Timothy A. (with Charles H. Jamieson and Sandra Carey), Deviant Behavior: Crime, Conflict and Interest Groups, 8th edition, (2008).  He is also a program advisor for the California State Mitigation Assessment Response Team (SMART).
