Identifying Special Needs in the Early Years

March 2007 | 112 pages | SAGE Publications Ltd
With increasing expectations from parents and practitioners for inclusive early years settings, many practitioners are anxious about identifying and accommodating children's individual needs as early as possible.

Through simple step-by-step instruction, this book will:

o increase practitioners' confidence in identifying individual needs;

o give practical advice on involving parents;

o provide clear links to existing guidance and legislation.

This is a valuable guide for practitioners in all early years settings including Day Nurseries, Pre-schools, Children's Centres, Nursery Schools and infant schools.

A very reader-friendly text which provides sound guidance to teachers and early years practitioners on how to identify and accommodate individual needs - recommended for students wishing to progress into a career in early years.

Very informative text and useful and quite a few students did not think it was necessary to identify SEN until formal school started

I found this book useful as it covered some of the particular needs we studied in the module.

This is a good "entry" book for my MA course. Students found it very readable and interesting. The outline summary and key points were very helpful. One of my teachers had used my inspection copy to prepare and deliver staff training at her school and i have used it to facilitate discussion and group learning. I have a wide range of age groups represented by teachers on my MA and this book put learning into context for some of them.
