Caring for Older People
A Shared Approach
Providing an accessible, evidence-based framework and a wealth of practical strategies which can be implemented on a daily basis, Christine Brown Wilson takes the reader step by step through different approaches to nursing care and shows clearly how that care can move from being a task-focused to a person-focused experience.
Case-based scenarios threaded throughout the book also illustrate how the quality of care can be enhanced, and how students and practitioners can work effectively with older people while balancing the competing demands of the health and social care system. The author also shows how nurses can influence current practice, equipping the reader with key skills that can be used to challenge poor ways of working and to identify methods through which inadequate provision can be turned around.
This book will be indispensable reading for all nursing and healthcare students and practitioners who want to improve the quality of life for older people.
Students will be recommended to purchase this text as there is a high level of information relevant to a specific unit within our course. The text itself is very factual with lots of data evidence to support points. The book is structured well and it is easy to find any required information. There is a good use of case studies to support points from varying different health and social care settings to allow students to visualize theory to practice. There are extra activities provided throughout to allow students to think deeper about topic. The use of diagrams supports learning.
I have recommended this book to year 1 nursing students as a guide for those with no previous care background. This book covers the fundamentals and essentials of caring for the aging population.
Recommended to our students studying Caring for Older People as part of their Level 3 Health & Social Care course - very easy to read - useful text.
Excellent text, will recommend for students undertaking one of the second year assignments
Suitable for L3 Yr 2 students - well laid out but would have benefitted from more images/pictures. Case studies interesting and relevant - I particularly like the case study on Dorothy Brown which Level 3 students will relate to.
