Research Methods for the Behavioral Sciences wins 2014 Most Promising New Textbook Award

March 4, 2014

Los Angeles, CA - Research Methods for the Behavioral Sciences, by Dr. Gregory J. Privitera, has been honored by the Text and Academic Authors Association (TAA) with a 2014 Most Promising New Textbook Award (Texty). The book was published in July of 2013 by SAGE.

The Most Promising New Textbook category was created in 2012 to recognize current textbooks and learning materials that are still in their first editions. Judges are published textbook authors.

Taking a problem-focused approach to introducing research methods, Research Methods for the Behavioral Sciences is a comprehensive pedagogical text that integrates research methodologies with statistical analyses, using SPSS throughout. The book is conceptual in nature, conversational in tone, and includes real research examples that are both current and interesting for students.

“I am very grateful and proud to have won the Most Promising New Textbook Award. It is especially rewarding to be recognized for the culmination of many years of work developing this book,” stated Dr. Privitera. “I try to write with an openness to the viewpoints of potential readers so that many faculty and students can identify with the book in terms of the topics covered and the approachability of the text. I think this award reflects positively on my approach to writing, and that is quite a humbling and satisfying accolade."

Gregory J. Privitera is an associate professor of psychology at St. Bonaventure University. Dr. Privitera received his PhD in behavioral neuroscience from the State University of New York at Buffalo and went on to complete postdoctoral research at Arizona State University. Dr. Privitera is a veteran and former sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps and the author of more than a dozen books and peer-reviewed articles including Statistics for the Behavioral Sciences.

“With firm roots in the social and behavioral sciences and a history of research-methods publishing, we are thrilled that this textbook has been honored by the Text and Academic Authors Association,” stated Michele Sordi, Vice President of Editorial at SAGE. “At SAGE, we hold ourselves to the highest standards of quality and author care, partnering with our authors to publish works that convey their distinctive voice and pedagogical approach. Awards like these affirm both the vital contributions our authors make, and our aspiration as the Publisher of the Social Sciences.”
