Jayati Sarkar Indira Gandhi Institute for Development Research, Mumbai, India

Jayati Sarkar has held faculty positions with the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research Mumbai, India, for the past 15 years. Previous to this, she worked with the Indian Chamber of Commerce, Mumbai, India, as an economist. She has also been a visiting faculty at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, USA. Winner of the National Science Foundation grant for research work on Business Group, Dr Sarkar has been an active member of the NGO Mission Sayam Siddha, an organization that works for disadvantaged women. She has written extensively on issues related to corporate governance including articles on ‘Ownership and Firm Performance’, ‘Corporate Governance Reforms and Corporate Sector Development in India’, ‘Liberalization, Corporate Ownership and Performance: The Indian Experience’ and ‘Board Independence and Corporate Governance in India: Which Way Forward?’.
