Organizational Behavior

November 2009 | 512 pages | SAGE Publications Ltd
Organizing and Organizations is well loved by students and lecturers for its accessible, conversational tone and insightful real-life examples introducing the study of organizations and organizational behaviour. Fineman, Gabriel and Sims, eminent academics in the field, cover a wealth of key concepts, research and literature leaving students informed and engaged.

The Fourth Edition builds on the strengths of previous editions, to provide you with a textbook that continues to stand out from the rest. This new edition has been fully developed to include:

- A new section within each chapter that highlights the theoretical links informing the chapters.

- New review questions to test and apply your understanding of the ideas in each chapter.

- New 'reading on' sections that direct you to free links to highly recommended journal articles relating to each chapter's coverage, and found on the companion website.

- New critical review questions at the end of each chapter to encourage debate.

- Each chapter is now enlivened with pictorial illustrations.

`An excellent introductory text .... it provides a concise and well-written coverage of the main concepts in organizational behaviour. The combination of case studies and discussion of theoretical issues is well structured and provides the reader with a good framework for further reading' - Leadership and Organization Development

This will make a useful addition to the recommended reading for the International Management Programme, as several of our students will not have studied management previously at undergraduate level. Having access to a selected number of related journal articles is very useful too.

This is a fascinating insight into organisational life. It provides a comprehensive overview of life in an organisation. It has a very accessible style with many study aids. I particularly liked the integration of multiple theories. The stories and descriptions of organisations brought the whole text alive. This will be essential reading for students, and those working in areas of organisational behavior.

I will try this book in my new course on Organizing at the master level. It differs from others, and seems both fun and relevant - which we need in the area of organizations.

Stephen Fineman's book on various processes of organizing is a great source of information for more advanced students of (international) organization. Many salient questions regarding organization are touched upon and given conceptual background. Not only students but also more seasoned theorists will consider the book as a good place to find inspiration about how to understand and research the world of (international) organization in an original fashion!
