Study Skills for Nurses
I thought the tips and advice on information searching and writing skills were the best parts of the book.
I like the layout of the book and the many exercises.
However, it is too broad I think. With the exception of areas like 'social networking' covers domains already presented in the OU study skills book.
The data in the preceding books in the Transforming Nursing Practice Series, 'Critical thinking...' 'Information Skills.....' and Understanding research...' contain more specific and relevant 'study themes'.
In short it is too broad, to ask student to purchase! When most of this stuff is now widely covered in year 1 study skills at most universities.
This is an excellent text for our module Learning at Third Level.
I like everything about the book and I do not dislike anything.
The book was very easy to follow and had good case studies which help the student link the subjects to real situations. I would also recommend this book to anyone thinking of becoming a nurse, as I think that if they could get a grip of most of the chapters prior to starting their training then they will already have a step up. The ease with which it can be read was very appealing as it was succint and to the point, not patronising or overtly complicated.
I felt there was not enough detail about developing critical thinking and working at Level 6
Bench marked against NMC standards great for UK/N Ireland but not directly relevant to RO Ireland standards. Content however is very good.
Very good introductory text linked robustly to NMC standards for pre-reg education and essential skills clusters. It is, as ever with this series, an accessible text for students in terms of both readability and affordability. There are many activities and case studies throughout which students always welcome. Inclusion of a chapter on numeracy is particularly useful as this is an area that does seem to terrify some students.

An excellent book in every respect. It provides a wealth of excellent advice and activities pertient to the modern day student nurse.
This book covers a wide range of appropriate topics for the student nurse. It is informative and is an excellent resource for the full three years of the course
