Covers the macromolecular engineering of polymeric and related materials and polymer matrix composites, i.e. the manipulation of structure at the molecular scale to control properties and fitness for purpose of the final component.

Plastics, Rubber and Composites provides an international forum for the publication of original, peer-reviewed research on macromolecular engineering of polymer and polymer composites.

Our scope includes

· manipulation of material structure at the molecular scale to control properties during processing to enhance structural and/or functional performance and for the creation of added value, innovative or more sustainable products.
· the use of artificial intelligence and modelling techniques to enhance material formulation (polymers, blends and composites), prediction of properties to optimise process and product design and establish robust processing routes and process control systems to enable the demanded properties to be reliably achieved.

Our main areas of interest are:

· Polymers (from either petrochemical feedstock or renewable natural resources), polymer blends, polymer composites, including polymer-related pharmaceutical and biomedical materials;
· Processing of single and multiphase polymeric systems and composites in quantified, controlled, or novel ways, across the length scales (nano to macro); novel processing technologies;
· Use of artificial intelligence to optimise materials formulations and processing routes, product performance and potential for recycling/reuse;
· Rheology; process measurement, sensors, and control;
· Formation of polymers and composites by novel routes;
· Additives including plasticisers and nano structured fillers;
· Tailoring of properties during processing; property-processing relationships; off-line characterisation of materials and products, across the length scales;
· Measurement techniques for process control and in-situ materials characterisation;
· Modelling of processing and structure development (melt, solid, multiphase, solution): numerical and analytical modelling; constitutive relationships; validation;
· State of the art design methodologies;
· Effective recycling strategies, potential reuse of materials, persistent polymers, adverse environmental effects of materials, reduction of PFAS materials, and end of life options for polymers;


The journal's coverage reflects growing common ground between the processing of polymers, polymer composites and related materials in the fine chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and biomaterials sectors.
