This book has been out for a while but provides a solid basis for Stage 1 students getting to grips with social work practice.This book is a core text in 'Readiness for Direct Practice' helping students to understand how to be effective practitioners as a foundation to their first placement.
Central text in Introduction to Practice Education and also in Practice educator Award, Stages 1 & 2
Really useful for helping students think about the difficulties involved in applying theory to practice.
It is an informative text, clear and concise and will be helpful for students on the BA.
I like the analysis and emphasis on values at the beginning: additional emphasis on codes in other jurisdictions would have given this wider applicability, ie: in Scotland. The attention to integrating theory and developing reflective practice - and how to do so - is a significant strength given the complexity of this task for students.
The book gives a great deal of knwoledge and good practice for students and Practice Educators, to create clear learning opportunity for students at the placement. It provides with good value base so required in social work, gives clues for expectations how to use supervision to develop as a future practitioner and provide evidence and demonstrat competencies when on a placement. A very recommended book for both students and practice educators.
