Textile Research Journal

eISSN: 17467748 | ISSN: 00405175 Frequency: 24 Times/Year

The Textile Research Journal (TRJ) is the one and only globally recognised peer reviewed flagship journal for textiles. Over the years, it has made its mark on the shaping of textile research and innovation worldwide. The journal is devoted to the dissemination of theoretical and applied scientific knowledge in materials, chemistry, processes, manufacture, and industrial technologies related to fibres, fibrous assemblies and textiles. It serves authors and subscribers worldwide, and accepts contributions on the basis of quality, novelty and originality.

In the year 1931, the United States Institute for Textile Research, Inc., later renamed as the Textile Research Institute and currently known as TRI Princeton, started publishing a bulletin under the name T.R.I. Bulletin. From 1932 onwards, it was published as a scientific journal renamed as Textile Research. It assumed a new format in 1944, making it a technical and scientific publication of industrial relevance, and in 1945, the name was further changed to Textile Research Journal. Sage Publications Ltd. took over the journal from TRI Princeton in 2005. For several years, the journal was publishing 12 issues per year, in 2009 it got expanded to 18 issues, and subsequently in 2010 to 20 issues. From 2018 onwards, it is a semi-monthly journal publishing 24 issues in a year.

Since its founding the Textile Research Journal served the textile community as the premier forum for the presentation of scientific results that introduce new concepts, innovative technologies, and enhanced understanding of textile materials, chemistry, processes and systems. Over the years, TRJ has grown from strength to strength, publishing peer reviewed research and comprehensive review papers from leading research organisations worldwide. These papers deal with research in the development and characterisation of natural and synthetic polymeric materials, fibres, and engineered textiles; chemical modifications of fibres and textiles, including dyeing and finishing; testing of fibrous structures and fabricated products; innovations in production processes, manufacture and machinery; and the management of product design, economics and distribution systems.

The journal is a member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), and follows a two-way anonymous peer review process. Acknowledging the contributions of expert reviewers, TRJ offers a limited period free access to several Sage journals and also a discount on some of the Sage books ordered online. Moreover, TRJ collaborates with the Web of Science Reviewer Recognition Service to provide the reviewers the recognition of their contributions.

Manuscripts are welcomed from industrial laboratories, government research centres, universities, private research organisations, and independent scientists worldwide.

The Textile Research Journal (TRJ) is the long-standing peer reviewed textile flagship journal with a global coverage. Established in 1931, it is the topmost forum for original research in fibres, fibrous assemblies, textiles, colouration, finishing, coating and industrial manufacturing. Over the years, it has contributed immensely to the progress of textile research and innovation worldwide.

The journal is built upon the field of materials science, with a focus on fibres and textiles, introducing novel concepts, innovative technologies, and industrially relevant advances in fibres, textile materials, chemistry and processes. TRJ aims to cover the complete circular textile value chain from raw materials to recycling and effluent management. The research topics covered by the journal include, but not limited to: natural, synthetic and bio-based polymeric materials and fibres; polymer extrusion, spinning, knitting and weaving; engineered and laminated textiles, nonwovens, braided textiles, composites and textile reinforced concrete; chemical and surface modifications of fibres and textile substrates; dyes and pigments, pre-treatments, dyeing, printing, functional finishing, coating, textile care and detergents; textile machinery, production processes and manufacture; quality control, testing, validation and certification of textile products, etc.

On the technical textiles side, the journal offers a complete coverage, including their applications in personal protective equipment, security and protection, industrial textiles, fire protection systems, personal care products, sportswear, medical textiles, filtration, geotextiles, agrotextiles, construction, transportation, aviation and space, as well as in high performance, smart, intelligent and shape memory applications. It also covers various aspects of sustainable innovations and textile circularity, such as: alternative fibrous raw materials, microbial fibres, natural and microbial colourants, waterless dyeing, digital printing, spray and foam finishing, biotransformation of the textile industry, textile biomimicry, regenerative apparel manufacturing, sustainable and slow fashion, eco-friendly processes, energy and waste reduction, recycling, upcycling, reuse, effluent treatments, and pollution abatement, including microfibre release.

Other areas include nanotechnology and biotechnology applications, enzymatic treatments, plasma functionalisation, laser, ozone and ultrasonic treatments, sustainable denim and jeans, electronic and conductive textiles, thermophysiological clothing comfort, management of product design, eco-designs, eco-labelling, statistical analysis, economics, supply chain management, logistics, digitalisation, and the application of robotics and artificial intelligence in textile manufacturing.

TRJ welcomes manuscripts from industrial laboratories, government research centres, universities, private research organisations, and independent scientists worldwide.
