IPR License and SAGE announce affiliation at LBF
The opening day of the London Book Fair 2015 has seen IPR License, the global rights and licensing trading platform, team up with SAGE, a leading independent academic professional publisher, to further extend its remit into the international content rights marketplace.
SAGE will look to utilise the speed, simplicity and scope of IPR’s bespoke transactional subsidiary book and journal solution TradeRights to bolster its international licensing remit.
Now in its 50th year of publishing high quality academic content for the educational, scholarly and professional markets, SAGE publishes more than 800 journals on behalf of over 300 leading societies and over 800 new books each year, spanning a wide range of subject areas. A growing selection of library products includes archives, data, case studies, conference highlights and video. Its principal offices are located in Los Angeles, London, New Delhi, Singapore, Washington DC and Boston.
Tom Chalmers, Managing Director of IPR License, commented:
“SAGE is huge name within the publishing world and it’s a great endorsement for the IPR platform to be entrusted with becoming such an integral component in its future licensing plans. It soon became clear in discussions that we have the same vision for the future of rights licensing and look forward to a long and fruitful partnership.”
Katherine Ryan, Global Head of Licensing and Rights SAGE, added:
“At the heart of SAGE’s publishing mission is to support both access to and engagement with education resources and content. Our partnership with IPR Licence will enable us to further develop our presence within foreign language publishing, ensuring that the high quality research of our authors and publishing partners is accessible across the globe, in the language that they need. We are delighted to be announcing this partnership and look forward to working with their well renowned team.”

Notes for editors
IPR License is the platform for publishers, authors and literary agents to list and license literary rights. The platform offers the opportunity to monetise or find the best new content in a global marketplace. It also acts as a copyright hub making it easier to locate copyright holders to clear permission for use of their work.
With 14m records already on the system, rights-holders assign records to their account and add new records – whether already published or not – as well as adding additional information to their records. Those looking to purchase rights can then contact the rights-holder and arrange complete the transaction directly.
We’re currently in discussion over a number of major partnerships, which are expected to be rolled out throughout 2014 as we look to become established as the industry standard tool when it comes to rights and licensing a variety of content.
Partnerships already in place in 2014 are a digital link-up with Ingram Content Group; a strategic affiliation with Copyright Clearance Centre and a partnership with The Alliance of Independent Authors (ALLi) and the Independent Authors Association (AiA)
Other announcements include the launch of ‘TradeRights’ which represents a first in the industry and allows parties to make offers and negotiate deals on whole book rights then complete the transaction in full, including contracts and payment. And the opening up of the platform toallow access for all interested parties to search for whole book rights across territory or genre after initially being open solely to members.
IPR License has also launched ‘Spotlight’, an innovative new promotional tool showcasing exclusive rights for key titles from publishers across a range of global territories. In addition it has also announced partnerships with BooksoniX and a key promotional partnership with Indonesia’s Ministry of Education and Culture, in conjunction with the Frankfurt Book Fair. We have also recently enhanced our search functionality to make it even simpler for rights buyers to offer, negotiate and complete on a variety of rights-related deals. Liza Paderes has also recently been as acquisitions manager and Stacey Riley as transactions manager.
