Sage Choice
The Sage Choice program offers authors the option to publish their article open access in hybrid Sage subscription journals. It also enables authors to comply with funding body requirements, where publishing research papers open access is a stipulation of funding, while still publishing their article in the hybrid journal of their choice.
Nearly all Sage journals offer Sage Choice. Standard article processing charges (APC) for Sage Choice range from 3,000 USD to 4000, some non-standard fees are lower or higher. Please click here to check APC rates by title. The fee generally excludes any other potential author fees levied by some journals (such as color charges) however some titles owned by our society partners may charge page and colour charges in addition to the Sage Choice fee. Please check individual journal instructions for authors to see if any further charges apply.
Funding or discounted fees may be available through your institution or library and so we encourage you to check with your librarian or university contact.
Under this program, Sage will post to PubMed Central (PMC) or its international equivalents, such as Europe PMC or PMCI, on behalf of authors where their funder requires it. All other Sage policies regarding open access archiving remain unchanged.
Sage Choice is only available to authors after their manuscripts have been accepted for publication. This is in order to prevent any potential conflicts of interest, and to ensure that authors' choice and/or funder requirements have no influence on the editorial peer review and decision-making process.
If your article has been accepted for publication in a subscription journal published by Sage and you wish to publish under the Sage Choice option, please email your request to openaccess@sagepub.com.
